Case Study - COSSACKS: THE ART OF WAR
Client: CDV Software
CDV Software is German Games Software company with offices in Germany, London and LA. They are involved in software development, in buying in international licenses for software developed by third parties, in marketing, in Public Relations and in sales and dispatch. One of their best-selling titles is Cossacks.
 
Objectives:
To announce the launch of an expansion pack upgrade to the highly successful strategy game 'Cossacks', called 'The Art of War'.
To remind people of the Cossacks game one year after launch.
To drive sales of the game and the upgrade outside the core markets of Germany and the UK.
To market the game outside the usual 'gamer' channels of the games press and online gaming sites.
To market the game to 'non-gamers'
 
Solutions:
We generated a script based around the concept of 'The Art of War', rather than making an ad for computer games.
The clip features a couple engaged in domestic warfare because the man is more interested in playing on his computer than in his woman. In a clever tactical move, he feigns a move towards a goodwill gesture, before taking the enemy out with a sideways strike.
The situation and action is recognisable to anyone, and is therefore relevant to every viewer, not just video gamers.
